Current Information:Born-Islington Norfolk Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt, France 18th Division, including 7th Royal West Surrey (Queens) of 55 Brigade, arrived in France at end of July, 1915 and after a period of training moved to the Somme area, recently take over from the French Army. The routines of trench warfare were established and on 25th November, 1915, 7th Queens were relieved from the front line trenches in front of Becourt and moved back to billets in either Becordel or Ville-sur-Ancre. They remained in these billets until they went back into the trenches on 3rd December but the diary routinely reports ‘In Billets, nothing to record’. Private Fletcher was killed in action on 30th November but there is no mention of this. However as he was not in the front line at the time of his death it was likely that he was killed by an artillery shell. |
